Our adjudicator is Jane Tumelty

Aged 16 – Youngest qualified IDTA Professional in the UK

Opened Jane Tumelty LTD and, for many years, had the 3rd largest Ballroom medal test business in the IDTA

Following a visit to a conference in Germany with Cyril Farmer, brought back the WORLD Dance Programme and introduced it to the IDTA and other Associations.

1971 – Appointed Fellow and Examiner in all Ballroom Branches

1971 – Appointed Justice of the Peace

1980 – Elected Director of the IDTA

1982  – Introduced the Nationwide Medallist of the Year Competition

1985 – First ever President Elect, ending the 4 Vice Presidents   system

1986/7 – President

1987 – Elected Chairman of the Bench, Chairman of the Training Committee and member of the Courts Committee responsible for financial administration.

Member, for many years, of all Ballroom faculties.

Worked with Wally Laird and other faculty members in his front room on the Latin Supplement.

Worked with Geoffrey Morris, Nancy Clarke and Dereck Brown on producing the Rosette Syllabus which became 20% of the total medal test business. I chose the awards, hence the name.

Introduced and set the first routines for the Stardance Awards.

1992 – Helped organise and lectured, together with Judith Silvester, the first IDTA training day.

1992 – Involved in the development of NVQ’s for dance

1994 – Helped to redraft what was the BCBD rules in regard to competitive work

1995 – Advised on technique for the “Guide to Old Time Dancing”

2005 – Wrote, in collaboration with Miss Barbara Sharples, the booklet, “How to make the most of your Medal Test business”

Travelled widely and lectured in most countries where IDTA has an interest.

Written many articles on a variety of subjects for Dance International.

2010 – Took a foundation degree at Buckinghamshire University courtesy of the IDTA

2010 – Geoffrey Hearn and I were Invited by Rudolf Trautz and Oliver Wessel-Therhorn to attend an adjudicator’s conference in Bad Kissingen. 

Scrutineered for Miss Dance for many years.

Introduced the BOD, via the S&RA, to Good Governance explaining our responsibilities and potential liabilities.

On the finance and general purposes committee up until decision made not to seek re-election to the Board

Compered the Barbara Sharples Choreographic Awards on every occasion but one. 

2014 – Elected President Elect

2015 – President

2015 – Past President

2016 – Decided not to seek re-election to the BOD on the grounds that the time to stop is when one is still capable of making a substantial contribution. Also, to make room for new blood

2016 to present day – Training students to the highest standard in all Ballroom subjects. Encouraging networking and giving support to members.
